Gov’t. committed to development of its human capital

-Min Rohee at CAC graduation of Overwining/Edinburgh youths
ANOTHER batch of 54 youths from the Overwining/Edinburgh area on Friday graduated from the six month life skills and vocational training programme, under the Community Action Component (CAC) of the Citizens’ Security Programme.

The youths were trained in skills such as garment construction, information technology, food preparation and service, cosmetology, auto and motor mechanics, and data entry.
Delivering the charge, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee explained that as Guyana moves forward, the need for new investments (both local and foreign) intensifies, and therefore the country’s human resources have to be equipped to drive these investments.
“Development within this country is moving at an unprecedented pace in all sectors; and linked to this is the need for service providers,” Minister Rohee said.

He added that not only is there a place for each graduate and every Guyanese as well in this massive developmental trajectory.
The programme offers a second chance to disadvantaged youths by providing them with a lifelong skill that will enable them to earn a decent living, while contributing positively to the country’s development.
Government’s committment to youth development saw the initiation of several programmes in various sectors, such as the Ministries of Labour and Culture, Youth and Sport; the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force.
The minister encouraged the graduates to use their newly acquired skills to the best of their abilities, and expressed gratitude to the trainers who volunteered their services. (GINA)
