… Action continues today
THREE clubs made it into winners’ row when the annual Milo Under-23 football competition kicked off with a thrilling evening of competition on the first night at the Tucville Playfield. The feature match saw the Fruta Conquerors comfortably defeat Santos FC 3-1 while in the second match of the triple-header Flamingo needled the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and in the curtain-raiser of the evening Beacon United got past the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 2-1.
Action continues today at the same venue with another triple-header, scheduled to start at 16:00hrs.
In the first match, Black Pearl meet Northern Rangers then the GPF go head-to-head with Charlestown United at 18:00hrs and the final match between Sunburst Camptown and GDF get under way at 20:00 hrs.
On Friday, in the Conqquerors/Santos match Ryan Seales scored first for Santos in the 18th minute then the opposition equalised the very next minute through a Dwayne Lawrence header. Lawrence managed to score again in the 33rd minute which left them in the lead at halftime.
At the resumption of the showdown the teams continued their see-saw battle until Travis Hackett delivered the final blow in the 78th minute to propel Conquerors to victory.
In the second match Flamingo picked up a 29th minute goal through Rawle Phillips. They were content to keep the GDF team from equalising to ensure a win and their first three points.
Earlier in the day Joshua Britton and Dellon Cadogan scored in the 19th and 24th minutes for Beacon United and the GPF pulled one back in the 48th minute when Aubrey Shepherd found the back of the net.
