FOURTEEN-year-old Kimberly Khan, of Lot 140 Coghlan Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was found hanging with her tongue protruding.
A younger sibling made the discovery, according to the teen’s mother, Mrs. Natasha Bacchus, who said Kimberly placed a sheet around her neck and jumped off a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms. The dead body had just been taken away when the Guyana Chronicle arrived on the scene just after 10:00 hrs and her mother was inconsolable as she struggled to explain the tragedy to relatives and onlookers.
The deceased was a former student of the Institute of Professional Education (IPE) and was, reportedly, involved in a relationship with a male.
Her mother said the teenager had disappeared from their home on Tuesday night and a search for her had been mounted but she, subsequently, called and promised to return.
She kept her promise and even apologised to the family when she returned, the mother informed.
Kimberly had awakened in, apparently, good spirits and undertook to cook the family meal, having $1,000 her mother had left with her.
Mother and daughter had breakfast together during which the former spoke to the latter about her behaviour.
Kimberly was playing with her younger siblings when she locked them out of the ill-fated bedroom and took her own life.
No one could offer a motive for the suicide but remarks made by several of her family members yesterday indicated that she may have had issues surrounding the relation she shared with a young man.
According to the mother, police officers had apprehended her daughter and the young man holding hands and dressed in their school uniforms.
Cousins of the deceased went to her home yesterday yelling to a young man who was present that the tragedy would not have occurred if he had kept his mouth shut.
