Court told…

Remanded accused gave wrong name for passport application  SHERRINGTON Lovell, 41, of Lot 333 Republic Park, East Bank Demerara, has been charged with making a false statement to secure a passport. The indictable charge, which he faced before  Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday, said, last June 10, he falsely stated in an application for the travel document that his name is Travis Paul, knowing same to be false.
Police sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Lovell, stating that other charges are likely to be laid against the accused in the coming week.
The prosecutor also reported that the police had a difficult time to locate the accused and it is likely he will not return for trial.
Consequently, despite submissions by attorney-at-law Mr. Peter Hugh, Lovell was refused pre-trial freedom until October 27.
