VISHAL Ramotar, 26, of Lot 141 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, taken to court on an arrest warrant yesterday, was remanded to prison on a fraudulent conversion charge.
Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton upheld an objection to bail for him, by Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, who said the Police had difficulty in locating the accused and, if he secures the grant, he may not return for trial. Ramotar is charged, indictably, with having, between February 1 and 28, been solely entrusted, by Ramesh Sahadeo, with merchandise valued $5.2M, to sell and return the proceeds, he fraudulently converted it to his own use and benefit.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for the defence, had his application denied and the case was put off to September 9.
