POLICE conducted a drug eradication operation at Breath Water, Upper Berbice River, last Saturday, during which a four-acre field of cultivated cannabis (marijuana) plants was found. It comprised about 20,000 plants, ranging between four and seven feet in height, a nursery with approximately 20,000 seedlings and two camps, all of which were destroyed but no arrests were made.
However, in a separate incident, at about 09:30 hrs on Monday, August 15, ranks on mobile patrol stopped and searched a man, who was walking along the road at Mabura and one kilogramme of suspected marijuana was found in a haversack he was carrying.
He is in custody and charges will be made shortly, a police press release stated.
