GUYANA has recorded a proud moment once again. Our children have excelled at the CSEC examinations, recording achievements in so many subject areas. According to the Stabroek News of August 12, ‘Girls share CSEC top spot’, Guyana has done even better than last year…“Education Minister Shaik Baksh, who announced the results at a news conference on Thursday, said the country has done exceedingly well at this year’s examinations, with an overall 64.4 percent of candidates obtaining passes between Grades One and Three, and 84.6 percent obtaining passes between Grades One and Four.” Increases were recorded in English Language, which recorded an overall pass rate of 60.8 percent, as compared to last year’s 59.2 percent. English B recorded a 60 percent pass rate, while Agriculture Science, Home Economics and French recorded 90 percent and Theatre Arts, 100 percent.
The foregoing shows that the investment in this vital sector that Government continues to make annually is paying off. Every year we see huge amounts of money being allocated for the education sector to provide better schools, more resources and equipment, trained teachers.
Schools have been constructed in far-off areas so that students can gain an education – a proper education, resulting in days like these when we can say it is paying off, that these are worthwhile investments that are making a difference in the lives of the young to gain a good footing in life.
