MAHDIA’S Under-23 football team turned the table on their senior partners on Monday, defeating them 2-0 in a Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport-sponsored Emancipation Celebration football competition, held under floodlights at the Mahdia playfield in Region Eight.
Tony Cornelius fired in a double that resulted in the sinking of the Seniors’ ship. Cornelius found the net in the 57th and 73rd minutes as the Seniors struggled to find an answer for the younger legs. In the preliminary game of the double- header Campbelltown edged out Central Mahdia 1-0 with Michmen George netting the match lone goal in the 17th minute.
All four teams were met by Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle, who highlighted the support given to Mahdia by the Ministry.
Popular businessman Roger Hinds gave a cash prize to the winner of the feature match and used the occasion to donate several football boots to youths in the area.
