Grow More Food Festival in Linden tomorrow

THE Ministry of Agriculture has indicated that it will be hosting a Grow More Food Festival in Linden tomorrow. The Festival is slated to be held at the Linden/Georgetown Bus Park in McKenzie. This Festival, one of many planned for 2011, will bring the Ministry of Agriculture agencies and departments, private sector companies; input suppliers, manufacturers, agri-business investors, farmers organizations, and consumers together to highlight agricultural projects and opportunities, for Region 10.

A statement from the Agri. Ministry yesterday said this event is a way of showcasing strides made in the agriculture sector in Region Ten and also encouraging more participation in this area.

A number of the Region Ten Farmers’ Group and Private Sector companies will be participating among other agencies such as the Guyana Marketing Corporation, National Agricultural Research & Extension Institute, Guyana Livestock Development Authority, Pesticides & Toxic Chemicals Control Board, Fisheries Department, Hydromet, Guyana Rice Development Board, National Drainage & Irrigation Authority, the Guyana Forestry Commission and the Forest Products Development & Marketing Council.

Input suppliers such as Genequip/Farm Supplies and Farfan & Mendes will also be participating and  promoting their products to farmers.

The Region 10 Farmers’ Association, the umbrella body for the farmers and farmers associations will be showcasing the range of products produced in Region 10. In addition, the many loggers associations of Region 10 will also have a prominent presence. Farmers are encouraged to utilize this opportunity of meeting with the Technical Officers of these agencies to discuss their farming activities.

‘Grow More Food Festival – Linden’ will also have entertainment for the entire family. Local Soca Queen ‘Shelly G’ will be performing, whilst there will be merry go-round, and other games for the children with free distribution and seeds and other planting materials.
The ministry said the event will start at 14:00 hrs and will go into the evening. Admission is Free.
