– Minister Prashad tells Trinidadian counterpart
MINISTER of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Mr. Manniram Prashad, last Friday, met with Trinidad and Tobago’s (T&T) Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Stephen Cadiz. The T&T Minister, who was in Guyana for the International Building Expo which opened Friday at the National Stadium in Providence, East Bank Demerara, met Prashad at his South Road office, in Georgetown and their discussions included how they can move forward trade and investment between the two countries.
Minister Prashad said Guyana is a country on the move with enormous opportunities for investors.
He alluded to the fact that Guyana and Trinidad, over the years, have shared a good relationship, noting that a lot of big T&T companies are doing business in Guyana and more persons are coming to invest in the country as the economy is now emerging as an attractive investment destination with numerous opportunities in the various sectors such as the agricultural sector and Guyana’s budding tourism sector which is growing rapidly.
Minister Prashad said this is a very good signal for Guyana as “he is seeing the positive signal and seriousness in which people are investing”.
He said Government has been working to create the enabling environment and for the private sector to seek out opportunities.
Prashad also noted that Guyana and Trinidad used to have a joint bilateral commission dealing with trade a few years ago and suggested that the two countries resuscitate that initiative since it would be beneficial for both parties.
According to a statement from Prashad’s office, Minister Cadiz also expressed interest in moving the trade and investment relations between the two countries forward, noting that Guyana is indeed moving ahead having been making great strides.
He said Trinidad has great interest in Guyana as there are many opportunities and both countries need to work more closely in this regard.
