CONTRARY to rumours and reports circulating in the local press with regard to the court injunction filed and won against the present executives of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to notify the general public, that they have no part in the matter.
According to a source within the BCB who choses to remain anonymous, the BCB only knew of the injunction after it appeared in the daily news of both the Stabroek and Kaieteur newspaper.
The said injunction, filed by Angela Haniff in her capacity as Secretary of the BCB, a constituent member of the GCB and a delegate of the BCB, brought the action against the newly elected body of the GCB, saying the AGM at which the executives were elected was unconstitutionally held.
“The president and majority of his executives were not aware of the injunction before it was filed and only became aware of same, through two of the daily newspapers at which point they realised that the injunction was filed by Ms Haniff in her capacity as Secretary of the BCB.”
When quizzed on BCB president Keith Foster’s appearance at the AGM after saying in an earlier letter that the BCB executives unanimously agreed to boycott the said AGM over certain discrepancies that needed to be ironed out by the GCB, the source said they were there for a purpose.
“We heard through the grapevine that some persons who are not members of the BCB or even delegates assigned to represent the BCB were going to the GCB’s AGM and vote on behalf of the BCB, so the president along with some other members, turned up to keep the integrity of the BCB intact.
“It was not a matter of disagreement or even disunity within the BCB which is strongly committed towards the development of cricket in Guyana. We wanted to make sure that no unauthorised individual voted on behalf of the BCB, according to reports received,” stated the anonymous source.
Meanwhile, Chronicle Sport would like to take this opportunity to publicly apologise to the president and his executive members who were wrongfully identified as the personnel that brought the injunction against the GCB in the article headlined: ‘When or where will it stop?’
