Ganga brothers show form in CLT20 trials

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) – Sherwin Ganga played two match-winning innings on Saturday, guiding a Denesh Ramdin XI to back-to-back victories over a Daren Ganga XI in two Twenty20 trial matches at the National Cricket Centre here.

Sherwin, the younger of the two Gangas, struck 45 in the opening match to steer his team to a six-wicket win, and continued his good form in the second fixture with 37 not out in an equally comfortable seven-wicket victory.

National captain Daren Ganga and Tobagonian Navin Stewart also impressed with the bat with knocks of 51 and 45 respectively, but in losing efforts.

In the first match, the younger Ganga came to the crease with Ramdin’s XI three for one, chasing 142 for victory.

He and opener Justin Guillen, who made 27, repaired the damage in a match-winning partnership that yielded almost half the runs required.

Jason Mohammed, not out on 34, anchored Ramdin’s side to victory with nine balls remaining.

Earlier, Rayad Emrit ran through the top order of the elder Ganga’s team, taking three wickets to leave his opponents reeling at 26 for four at one stage.

Navin Stewart scored 45 and Kevon Cooper made 23, rescued the elder Ganga’s XI, helping them to reach 141 for nine from their allocation of 20 overs.

In the second match, the elder Ganga’s 51 from 46 balls was the highlight of his side’s innings, as his team totalled 136 for six from their 20 overs.

Ramdin’s men again made light work of the total with Evin Lewis leading the way with 44, and fellow opener Guillen supported with 28 in a 66-run opening stand.

The younger Ganga arrived later to usher Ramdin’s side over the finish line with three balls to spare.
