Three major events are set to be staged in Guyana within the next two weeks. They will not only highlight different areas in the country, but will also promote the enabling environment for increased investment both locally and internationally.
The much anticipated second annual International Building Expo will be staged at the National Stadium, Providence from July 29 – 31; Berbice Expo is set for July 22- 25; and Wakenaam Night will be held on July 30.
According to Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad these events will collectively contribute to bolstering domestic tourism and to the overall development of the economy.
“This concept of showcasing and promoting different areas in Guyana is growing; we have GuyExpo, this has grown into one of the biggest exposition in Guyana; and then we have the Berbice Expo, the Linden Expo, Rupununi Expo and there is one in Mahdia as well,“ he said.
Minister Prashad made these remarks during a media briefing at his South Road office on Thursday. He noted that all of these are events that have been developed over the years.
As to the scope of the Building Expo, Prashad explained that this is something that many have never seen in the entire Caribbean.
“In fact, many of the private sector organizations in the Caribbean have enquired about the event, owing to its success, and there are benefits to be derived from this event in terms of the accessibility to information about construction,” Prashad added.
The Tourism Minister also recognized the important role of the several other major activities, including Berbice Expo, Linden Expo, Rupununi Expo, Mahdia expo and Moruca Expo.
Alluding to these, he stated, “These are major expos we have and Wakenaam night has also proven to be highly successful, so we want to go to the length and breadth of Guyana to ensure that people in different communities are exposed to the events.”
He also noted that there are many overseas-based Guyanese who, having witnessed the continued development of the country over the last couple of years, have expressed the desire to return to their homeland.
According to Prashad, this is an ideal time for these persons to return home and to take advantage of all of the opportunities now available.
He explained, “A lot of Guyanese have re-migrated; and when they return, they are surprised at the progress we have made.”
The Minister reaffirmed that the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce will continue to work very closely with organizers of these events to promote local products, which is what these expositions are all about.
