Remanded for 2 nights and fined $20,000

… for lying on reputed husband
Fortunes turned against a young woman who gave a false report to a policeman resulting in her reputed husband being charged and placed before the court.
She was made to spend two nights on remand at the East La Penitence Police Station.
On July 4 last, the woman, Bonetta Ferninand, 18, of Friendship Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, filed a report to Corporal Calder of Grove Police Station that her reputed husband, Solomon Slowe, of the same address, had assaulted her and also carried away $20,000 which she had in a purse.
As a result of the complaint, Slowe was arrested by the policeman and slapped with two charges, assault to cause actual bodily harm, and simple larceny.
The following day, Slowe appeared before Magistrate Leslie Sobers in the Providence Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the virtual complainant, who was present in Court, when asked by the Magistrate to explain what transpired, said that the report made to the police was a fabrication, and it was done on the insistence of her sisters.
On hearing this, Magistrate Sobers dismissed the charges against Slowe, and Ferdinand was instead arrested, charged with giving false information, and remanded to prison until July 7.
On Thursday, when she re-appeared before the Magistrate, she pleaded guilty and apologised to the court, before being fined $20, 000.
