GECOM commences series of training sessions
– for selection of Field Managers
THE Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has commenced the conduct of a series of Training Sessions for the selection of Field Managers for General and Regional Elections slated to be held later this year. GECOM, in a release yesterday, said the first leg of the Training Sessions was conducted on July 2 – 3, 2011, targeting participants from District 4.
According to GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Vishnu Persaud, the objectives of the Training Session are for participants, who would be appointed to manage the electoral process at the decentralized levels, to develop an appreciation and understanding of organizational structure that will be used to facilitate the efficient conduct of the General and Regional Elections 2011, and to acquire knowledge regarding the conduct of the Elections.
Accordingly, the participants are being trained to develop strategies to efficiently make the necessary preparations for the conduct of the General and Regional Elections 2011.
In addition to acquainting themselves with the steps involved in casting a ballot, including how to treat with the different categories of voters, the participants are coached about the duties and responsibilities of the management staff throughout the elections process up to the Declaration of the Results of the Elections.
The Training Sessions were conducted at the Hope Secondary School, Paradise Primary School, and Montrose Primary School on the East Coast Demerara; St. Stanislaus College, Tutorial High School, East Ruimveldt Secondary School, North Georgetown Secondary School, and St. Joseph High School in Georgetown; and Soesdyke Primary School and Providence Primary School on the East Bank Demerara.
