THREE persons were critically injured and areas along Mandela Avenue were early yesterday morning out of power after a car slammed into a utility pole bearing high voltage wires. This latest reported accident came as the Guyana Police Force and the United States State Department separately raised concerns about road safety.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of Mandela Avenue, shortly after 06:00hrs.
Members of the Fire Service were summoned to assist in rescuing the occupants of the car.  
Fire officials said three persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in critical condition. Police also arrived on the scene and began diverting traffic.
