Teen on $120,000 bail giving false information and improper use of telephone

A 17 year-old girl yesterday appeared in court to answer charges of demanding money with menace, giving false information and improper use of public telecommunication system.
The case was called in camera before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, and according to the case dockets, particulars of the offences stated that between June 23 and 25, the teen sent messages which she knew were false by means of a public telecommunication system, for the purpose of causing needless anxiety to another.
The other charge stated that on June 25, she gave to Inspector Dexter Thornton false information in writing, which she knew to be false, intending thereby to cause or knowing it to likely cause the said Inspector to use his lawful power to cause injury or annoyance of other persons.
The teen pleaded not guilty to the two charges, and the other charge of demanding money with menace was dismissed, since the virtual complainant did not offer evidence against the teen.
The virtual complainant had to pay court cost in the sum of $50,000 and the matter was dismissed against the teen.
The magistrate granted bail to the teen in the sum of $120,000 for the other charges which were  transferred to Court 2 before Magistrate Susanna Lovell yesterday.
When the matters were called before magistrate Lovell, she adjourned the case to September 5.
