Mediation Institute of Guyana gets new President

ATTORNEY-at-law Miss Jamela  A. Ali is the new President of the Mediation Institute of Guyana Inc.
She was elected for the new fiscal year 2011 – 2012, as successor to Mr. Mohamed Khan.
The Annual General Meeting was held recently at the Georgetown Cricket Club.
Outgoing President Khan gave a report of the MIG’s activities for the past fiscal year, after which there was a lively discussion by the members present and the  Board  of Directors.
At the elections of office bearers, Miss Jamela  A. Ali was elected President, Miss Pamela Nauth 1st Vice President, Dr. Hona  Perreira  2nd Vice President,  Ms. Sadie Amin Secretary, Mr. Mohamed Khan Treasurer, and Ms. Zairol  Neisha  and Ms. Hazel Halley-Burnett  Directors.  
Incoming president Ali, held the position of Director of the MIG during the last fiscal year and was trained with the first batch of Guyanese mediators in 2003. She is certified as a mediator, a mediation  trainer and a faculty  member.  The new president holds a Master’s Degree in Legislative Drafting and is currently an attorney-at-law in private practice.
According to the new President,  the mission of the MIG is to provide national  leadership  in the development and promotion of dispute resolution  services  in Guyana , and its vision is to  be the pre-eminent  organization  for professionals who provide  mediation services to individuals and organizations.
Ms. Ali thanked the members for placing their confidence in her, and she said she is looking forward  to their full participation and support in the upcoming year.
