GUYANA will be represented at this year’s International Qaseeda Mehfil , to be hosted by the Hedayatul Islam in Suriname on July 2. This country’s participation at the ninth staging of the event, has been made possible through the Muslim Youth League of Guyana, The Guyana United Sad’r Islamic Anjuman and the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex.
Guyana will field representatives in all of the categories—Male and Female, Junior and Senior and in addition to the participants, a large delegation will also travel for the event.
The event in neighbouring Suriname which will also be attended by Trinidad and Tobago and Holland , follows Trinidad & Tobago’s hosting of the annual event last year.
Imam Ahmad Hussain of Trinidad & Tobago is heading his country’s delegation while MYL’s Hakeem Khan is leading Guyana’s delegation. Holland’s participation is being coordinated by Al Haj Abdus Sattar Janki.
Hedayatul Islam said plans are well underway to make the event unique and memorable.
Al Haj Djameel Ashruf, who pioneered the Guyana / Suriname Muslims’ relations is among the persons involved in organizing the event.
Recently, a delegation from Suriname travelled here and held discussions relating to the event with local officials.
The International event will be hosted in Guyana next year.
Qaseeda is the singing of songs in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAS) and in Guyana, the Guyana United Sad’r Islamic Anjuman was the first organization to have organized such competitions in the past. Thereafter, other organizations also followed pattern.
