Lewis, Hope and Thom hit hat-trick
SKELDON Secondary School’s (SSS) Dexter Lewis and Stefan Hope, along with Bladen Hall Secondary’s Tegan Thom struck individual hat-tricks as their team chalked up victories in the last two rounds of matches, played in the inaugural Digicel nationwide Inter-secondary school Under-19 football championships.
On Wednesday afternoon, Lewis and Hope helped SSS defeat Manchester Secondary 8-0, while Thom scored his on Thursday afternoon as Bladen Hall Secondary blanked President’s College 7-0 in their encounter.
In the SSS/Manchester fixture, Quacy Sears opened the scoring in the 4th minute, before Lewis scored his first two goals of his hat-trick in the 14th and 22nd minutes respectively, followed by Hope’s first two in the 25th and 49th minutes of the match.
Lewis completed his hat-trick two minutes after Hope got his second goal, while Hope completed his two minutes after Devon Lindie found the back of the net, with Lindie scoring in the 53rd minute of play.
Like Lewis, Thom opened the scoring for Bladen Hall in their game against President’s College, in the 11th minute of play while Deshawn Garnett got the first of his brace in the 23rd minute, followed by Thom’s second goal two minutes later.
Mickel Fraser also scored a brace, with his first coming in the 30th minute as his side took the lemon time whistle with a four-goal lead over their opponents and when play resumed in the second half, Fraser completed his double, finding the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
Two minutes later Garnett made it six-nil when he scored his second goal, while Thom ensured his side advanced to the next round comfortably, by completing his hat-trick two minutes after Garnett’s strike.
In other matches played on Wednesday, Bygeval Secondary defeated Buxton two-nil with Jason Jack and Abraham Prawns finding the back of the net in the 25th and 30th minutes of the game, while Vreed-en-Hoop overcame Patentia 3-1.
Both Brickdam Secondary and North Georgetown Secondary (NGSS) played to a one-all draw at the end of regulation time, but NGSS came out victorious in the penalty shootout 4-3, while St John’s College also got past Bishops’ High 4-0 on penalty kicks, following a one-all draw.
On Thursday, St Mary’s and Imperial College swamped Sophia Special School and Freeburg Secondary 8-0 respectively, Berbice Educational Institute beat School of the Nations and Ash Educational Institute overcame Fort Wellington Secondary four-nil.
Lodge defeated Carmel three-nil, while Christianburg Secondary, Charlestown Secondary and Stewartville Secondary gained victories via penalty kicks over Kwakwani Secondary, North Ruimveldt Multilateral and Leonora, with Bygeval gaining a walkover from Golden Grove Secondary.
