Body of 14-yr-old retrieved from Madewini Creek

THE body of 14-year-old Kevin Poulis, called “Goby”, of Lot E20 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown was yesterday retrieved from the Madewini Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway by relatives, accompanied by the police. Relatives yesterday said the discovery was made at about 9:00 hrs during a search in the area and the body was found in a standing position in a shallow part of the creek.
Relatives find this very baffling since Poulis was a very tall teenager and the body was not swollen, but bore marks of violence on his eyes and mouth.
They believe that the body was placed there because they searched the same location on Sunday.
Relatives yesterday told the Guyana Chronicle that they even took divers there because they were of the opinion that the youth had drowned.
The relatives added that the teen’s neck appeared to be broken.
They said too that the teen disappeared during a family outing at the creek on Sunday and immediately a search was mounted but he was not found.
The last time relatives said they saw him he was out of the water and was headed in the direction of the  minibus that took his relatives to the creek. But Kevin had travelled to the creek in a taxi.
The driver of the taxi and his girlfriend are in police custody assisting with investigations.
Kevin, an only child, had gone to the Madewini Creek, opposite Splashmins on Sunday with a group of relatives, including his mother, Melinda Poulis.
Kevin was a student of South Ruimveldt Primary School.
The police yesterday said they are investigating the incident.
