‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton on comeback trail

… now a born-again Christian
FOLLOWING four consecutive losses in his last four fights, 36-year-old ‘Deadly’ Denny  Dalton will be using his upcoming six-round engagement against Trinidad and Tobago (T&T)-based Joel McRae as a stepping stone towards his comeback trail.

The two will face off in the 15th edition of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) in collaboration with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA)-organised ProAm boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall this coming Friday.
In an invited comment with Chronicle Sport, Dalton said he learned a valuable lesson following his loss to Camacho right here in Guyana at the Princess Hotel.
“I learnt a lot from the Camacho Jr fight and I have decided not to go back to doing the things I have been doing again. In fact, I am a born-again Christian. I have turned a new page with regard to my life and when I take on McRae, people will see the God in me taking care of things for me in the ring.
With that in mind, I urge fans to come out early to see the return of ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton, who will be boxing under new management and with a different approach to fights,” said Dalton.
Dalton’s record reads 16-10-1, with the drawn encounter coming in the second of three successive bouts against former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis, while his first of four consecutive losses was suffered at the hands of Kevin Placide, whom he had defeated in his previous fight.
He added, “No boxer or for that matter no sportsman likes to suffer four consecutive losses and having endured such for the first time in my career, I feel it is time I turn the tide and what better way to do so than to record a commanding victory over McRae.
I must admit that I don’t know much about him, but what I do know is he better be prepared for an all-out war, as after this fight, I will be targeting Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman’s national super middleweight title, which he took from me three years ago.”
When quizzed on his preparations as well as his thoughts on the fight, Dalton said: “I was always working out in the gym since my loss to Camacho Jr last year so my preparation for this fight is sound. In fact I wish if the fight was now, as I am ready for it.
I am waiting for the moment to step into the ring and do what I have to do to get the job done. I am happy he took the fight and as I said before, will be using it as a stepping stone to resume my career, following those four losses.”
