Faerber details roads repair programme for Region Three

THE 53 roads slated for repair under the Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) Community Road Improvement Project (CRIP), will include three in Uitvlugt, eight in Met-en-Meerzorg East and nine in Met-en-Meerzorg West, all on the West Coast of Demerara.
Regional Chairman Mr. Julius Faerber made the disclosure on Tuesday last when he spoke to the Guyana Chronicle, via  telephone, and said the works are expected to begin in approximately one month.

The targets Estate Road, Bruder Street, Side Line Dam and Venezuelan Housing Scheme at Uitvlugt; First Cross Street, Stewartville; Gap Road and Third Cross Street, La Jalousie; Back Street, Groenveldt, Sea View Road, Hague, London Alley and NPR in Den Amstel, all on West Coast Demerara; Station Street, Vergenoegen and Silk Cotton Dam, Zeelugt, both on East Bank Essequibo; Clarke Dam and Singh and Murphy Streets, Sisters Village and Belle Vue Main Road, First Street, La Grange and First Street, Patentia, all on West Bank Demerara.
The main road in Best Village, on West Coast Demerara will also benefit from the  CRIP as it is in a very deplorable state, with huge potholes littering it throughout its length, from outside West Demerara Regional Hospital to neighbouring Crane village, Faerber acknowledged.
He said three Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) will be beneficiaries and
work on Best Road will start very shortly.
For several years now, residents have been complaining about the state of this particular road and it has reached a point where even short drop taxis are refusing to take passengers on that route.
Although, generally, ignored for the most part, whenever any attention is paid by the authorities it is mostly done in an ‘ad hoc’ manner and the condition of the thoroughfare deteriorates within weeks of any rehabilitation work.
But Faerber reported that the Administration has been doing minimal maintenance  to make sure the roads, such as Best Road, are useable by persons, to some level.
