Online game will not only help students but businesses

…says GNNL General Manager
General Manager of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL), Mr. Nandkumar Puran, is optimistic that the Chronicle’s Mastermind Quiz Corner will not only boost the knowledge base of children preparing for the National Grade 6 Examinations, but also help advertisers who support the venture.
“Basically, this whole thing came about as the brainchild of the Chairman, Mr. Keith Burrowes. He is the person who initiated it and who has been the force behind it, in terms of pushing it forward. It all started with the idea that we could give students the opportunity to compete with one another online in terms of answering questions and getting marks [tallied],” Puran explained.
“What we are also looking to do is to give prizes to the top students with the highest scores. We also see this programme as a way in which we can help students with their National Grade 6 Examinations,” he said.
According to Puran, the Chronicle started the online interactive game with 2,000 questions and answers “and we are hoping to get a total question bank of about 10,000 questions.” He believes this, in itself, will motivate students to play the game and compete with one another.
“The other incentive is the prize that we will give,” Puran said. “More importantly, as I see it, the game will help with their Grade 6 work.”
He said the game could be viewed as an extension to what the company is doing with the Sunday magazine pullout that features Grade 6 work in the various subject areas.
“We are hoping that the business community, especially those that deal in stationery, books and computers, will see the benefit of coming on board with us. At the same time they could advertise on the game website,” he said.
