GCB Inter-county Under-15 Tournament …

Demerara poised for first innings points
DEMERARA were poised to take first innings points against Essequibo at the end of the first day of their second round two-day Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-organised Under-15 Inter-county competition at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.
Led by two terrific batting performances from Tajenarine Chanderpaul 83 (11×4) and skipper Brian Sattaur 79 (11×4, 1×6), Demerara reached a challenging 264 for 7 at the end of their allotted 65 overs, before reducing Essequibo to 81 for 5 at the close of play.
Winning the toss and batting, Chanderpaul and Sattaur gave their team a wonderful start as they piled on 142 for the first wicket before Sattaur was dismissed while Chanderpaul went on to topscore.
Also contributing to the score were Shivendra Henry who made 22 and Akashaya Persaud and Michael Shalim who contributed 21 runs each, against the bowling of Ricardo Peters who ended with 4-91 from 24 overs and Akel Wallace’s 2-61 from 20 overs.
In Essequibo’s reply, Kevin Paul, who ended the day with 2-29, rocked their batting to leave them on 11 for 2 and, along with Steven Sankar’s 2 for 14, left Essequibo in a shaky position, before Kemo Paul (46) and Devon George with 21 showed some resistance before they were dismissed.
Essequibo will start the final day today, looking for 177 more runs to take an unlikely first-innings lead over their opponents, who were runners-up to defending champions Berbice last year.
