The Office of the President has noted the resort of CN Sharma, the proprietor of CNS Channel 6 and his legal advisors to the court to secure relief in the form of an injunction restraining the Advisory Committee on Broadcasting (ACB) from discharging its statutory responsibilities with regard to upholding the laws, rules and regulations on broadcasting in Guyana. A statement from the Office of the President last evening said, “ The efforts of his legal advisors to prevent the ACB from discharging its statutory responsibilities are in response to their fears that the apologies by CN Sharma, the proprietor of CNS Channel 6, could possibly influence the ACB’s recommendation to the President of Guyana regarding his infractions of the law.
“ The ex-parte injunction relief sought was granted.
“ These efforts of his legal advisors are futile since the President had been in possession of the recommendations by the ACB before the ex-parte injunction was sought.
“ CN Sharma, as the records would show, has been increasingly an offender of the law. CN Sharma has been under similar scrutiny by the ACB and indeed has been sanctioned previously for breaches of the same broadcast regulations. Notwithstanding previous sentiments of remorse and indications of his intentions to abide with the law, CN Sharma’s apologies in this matter clearly reveal evidence of recidivism,” the statement concluded.
