Policeman drowns in Essequibo River

THE body of Police Constable 20880 Sheldon Branford, 20, was found floating in the Essequibo River in the vicinity of the Bartica Market yesterday. Relatives of Brandford, who was a member of the Guyana Police Force for the past two years, said he went for a bath in the river on Sunday and he had not been seen since.
The constable’s mother, Sharon Brandford, who lives in Georgetown, said that the family received a phone call on Sunday evening informing them that her son might have drowned while swimming.
The last time she saw her son alive was on Tuesday last when he came to the city from Bartica.
Brandford, of 2108 Nutmeg Street, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was a student of Charlestown Secondary School before he secured a job in the Force.
The body is at the Bartica Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
