Hamilton Green’s ‘Why were Akbar Muhammad and Philip Simon detained?’ in the Stabroek News of 31st May, 2011, apart from being repetitive, is bordering on being seditious. His exact words were,”But citizens need to speak up and protest. All unions, businesses, churches, mosques and mandirs, if they believe in justice, must stand up. This year it cannot be business as usual”. It seems that Mr. Green selectively and infrequently comes to the fore to defend whomsoever he thinks fit whenever he wants to satisfy his personal agenda.
Conveniently short is the memory of the former Prime Minister of his heyday in the time of the PNC when the very things that he accusing this government of were perpetrated willy nilly and in secrecy, to all and sundry.
What is of particular interest is who paid for Mr. Green’s jaunts to Washington and St. Louis, USA, with an entourage while the City Hall is architecturally crumbling and his workers remain unpaid for months. As a self-purported caring mayor, he should have sacrificed his emoluments garnered from his office to pay those very workers.
Did he go to Washington to escape the stench of his own Georgetown? Or is he the proverbial Nero who sat and fiddled while Rome burned?
