HUBRAJ Samaroo, 41, of Lot 42 Best Village, was fined a total of $30,000 yesterday on conviction, at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, also on West Coast Demerara, for unlawful assault and using abusive language. Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus imposed the monetary punishment on him after he pleaded guilty to charges that said, last May 28, at Best Village, he unlawfully assaulted his wife, Deowattie Samaroo and made use of abusive language to her.
The defendant, admitting that he cursed and slapped the virtual complainant, expressed remorse and regret.
He was ordered to pay $20,000 for the assault and $10,000 for the abuse.
