One jailed, co-defendant remanded after marijuana find

GERALD Ramhit and Orin Christopher (no addresses given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and cultivating a prohibited plant.
Particulars of the joint charges said, on May 28, the duo cultivated 3,500 marijuana plants with an estimated weight of 2,000 kilogrammes.
A separate charge said Ramhit had 145 grammes and Christopher 50 grammes of the same narcotic in which to traffick.
Ramhit pleaded guilty to both offences while Christopher pleaded not guilty.
Police Sergeant Kevin London, prosecuting, said ranks went to the home of the defendants and found some marijuana as well as two acres with the cultivation.
Ramhit was sentenced to four years imprisonment and was fined $30,000 and Christopher was remanded to prison for a June 7 appearance at Christiansburg Court.
