A statement from The Government Information Agency (GINA) yesterday referred to what it described as “blatant untruths and misinformation that continue to be peddled by the Kaieteur News.”
“In its latest scourge of misinformation, the newspaper claimed to have been denied access to the list of national awardees for 2011,” the statement said..
“GINA would forthrightly like to state it disseminated the said list to all media houses and entities. GINA’s internal records will so vindicate. It would therefore be unethical for the Kaieteur News to fault GINA if the paper failed to have measures in place to electronically receive such documents.
“GINA wishes to note that this is not the first time the Kaieteur News has claimed about not receiving documents when in fact they were actually sent. Similar instances and excuses by the newspaper were noted in the past. GINA was vindicated in all cases when internal records were presented.
“GINA can only conclude that the Kaieteur News deliberately tried to deceive its readership by publishing false information. GINA condemns the newspaper for its continued bias and unethical and unprofessional practices in journalism, and would like to reiterate its commitment to providing information to all Guyanese and the world at large.
“It is therefore not unfair for GINA to demand an apology from the Kaieteur News for its false accusation on this issue and those in the past,” the statement concluded.
