Stray catchers in action

The stray catcher campaign has taken some time to really kick off since it was launched in March this year, but there has been notable progress as some take on the challenge.
The Home Affair Ministry has rehabilitated and in some cases built new pounds over the last two years – a $13.5M initiative.

The Pounds Amendment Bill was passed in the National Assembly in April last year, and stipulates a fee of $5,000 to be paid to a stray catcher or any other person for every animal taken into the pound. This includes horses, cows, sheep and goats. The Stray Catcher Unit, at the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for overseeing the campaign.
