Better Hope to Golden Grove roadway being upgraded

HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon announced yesterday that Government plans to widen the East Coast Demerara highway, from Better Hope to Golden Grove, at a cost of $500M. Speaking at his weekly media briefing, held in Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown, he said: “Cabinet continued Government’s focus on improving the physical infrastructure in Guyana and its attention, on this occasion, was on the East Coast of Demerara corridor, specifically on the road proceeding from Plaisance / Better Hope eastward.”
Luncheon said Cabinet decided to initiate works on designing the upgrading of that roadway to a four-lane and funds have already been identified for the initial mapping, excavation and drainage works needed to be undertaken during the construction.
“Most of the work that you would see being done, initially, would be on the northern side of the existing road, where the room for the lateral extension, to provide for the four-lane road, is more readily available than on the southern side,” he said.
