The ‘Guinness Greatest of de Streets’ final tonight
… One Mile/Half Mile and Coomacka to battle for third place
THANKS to Trenton Lashley’s hat-trick, Eagles were able to defeat One Mile/Half Mile (OM/HM) in a sudden-death penalty shoot-out to book their place in tonight’s final of the inaugural Banks DIH-sponsored Linden’s ‘Guinness Greatest of de Streets’ competition at the Amelia’s Ward/Wisroc Minibus park.
In Thursday night’s action at the same venue, Retrieve Unknowns halted the Coomacka Mines 2-1 in an exciting encounter and will face Eagles for the top prize of $400 000 tonight, leaving Coomacka and OM/HM to battle for the third place prize of $150 000.
OM/HM’s Trevor Tudor scored one of the fastest goal of the tournament, doing so with only 11 seconds gone on the referee’s watch, to put his team ahead, before Lashley scored his first of three goals in the sixth minute.
Five minutes later and it was 2-1 in favour of Eagles as Lashley struck again before completing his hat-trick two minutes later, giving his side a two-goal deficit over their opponents.
Not to be outdone, Charles Harvey and C. Beckles found the back of the net in the 16th and 25th minute respectively to level the score for their team and at the end of regulation time, the score line read 3-3, forcing the game into penalty kicks.
At the end of their three mandatory kicks, the score read 2-2 which meant that sudden-death penalty kicks was used to decide the winner and that’s where Eagles came out on top 2-1.
In the first semifinal, Retrieve Unknowns rode on the back of a Shaquille Charles’ brace, scored in the 14th and 19th minutes and Darell George’s 30th minute strike to defeat Coomacka 3-1, with Kerron Daw scoring the lone goal for the losers in the 29th minute.
In the two supporting games, Rastas defeated the Baldheads 4-1 while Organisers turned the tables on Referees with a 3-2 score-line.
Meanwhile, three players are tied for the most goals in the tournament with Ashton Angel Jr, who incidentally has the fastest goal in the tournament, Lashley and Atiba Edmonds all scoring seven goals each, but Lashley has the opportunity to take the award for himself in tonight’s final.
Tonight’s action which kicks off at 19:00hrs will also allow spectators to win several giveaways including T-shirts, mini footballs and free Guinness at the bars, even as the teams do battle on the court.
The final four teams will see the ultimate winners walk away with $400 000, the losing finalists $250 000, the third place team $150 000 while the fourth-placed finishers will collect $75 will 000. All the participating teams receive a hamper compliments of Banks DIH.
