GPL commences overhaul of Kingston No.2 unit

– to increase generation capacity
THE Guyana Power and Light (GPL), in its move to increase power generation capacity to meet the growing demand for power supply, has commenced major overhaul of the No.2 unit at the new 20.7MW plant at the Kingston power plant.
A release from the company stated that the overhaul process is expected to be completed in 18-days.
The release further noted that 75.4MW of power is projected to be generated for the 18-day period by alternative power units inclusive of several high speed caterpillar and old generating units.
GPL also noted that there is the inherent risk that generation capacity may be inadequate due to forced outages, thus resulting in load shedding.
The company is however, advising consumers that the load shedding programme is based on a demand forecast and if the demand is less than anticipated, then the level of load shedding will be reduced.
GPL said that it will be publishing and broadcasting load shedding guides in the Guyana Chronicle and on NCN and Channel 6 television stations.
