Guyanese ‘gay marriage’ music video stirs up controversy in New York

A CONTROVERSIAL music video of Guyanese singer Nojj, portraying a homosexual couple (two males) exchanging marriage vows in a church and sharing an intimate relationship has cooked up  predominant feelings of disgust and resentment amongst Guyanese in the New York Tri-state area. The video also came in for serious criticism from several church elders who expressed offence at the fact that the video was done for the religious song, “Amazing Grace”, which they argued has nothing to do with homosexuality.

However, the Guyanese artiste insists that it represents a step forward for homosexuals in reclaiming their spiritual lives and healing wounds.

“It’s a love story…,” Nhojj says. “There’s a beauty in  love. And I hope that beauty is conveyed in this video,” he added.

Filmed in the historic St. Mark’s Church, one of the oldest churches in New York City, this is the first time a well known Christian hymn has  been used in a music video to express homosexuality.
Nojj is the son of a church minister, and was singing in Guyana before migrating to the United States several years ago.
