Baksh announces…

Charity Squatting Area being regularised into housing scheme
CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Ali Baksh has announced that Charity Squatting Area, which is occupied by 198 families, will be regularised into a modern housing scheme with roads, potable water, electricity and internal drainage network.
Addressing a public meeting there last week Wednesday, he said the Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Water, has already done the block survey and is currently working on designing individual house lots.
Baksh told the large gathering that Government will be spending millions of dollars to transform the location, where roads would be built, drains dug, pipelines laid and electricity connected to homes.
He said the aim is to give persons transports for their house lots and Charity, which is earmarked for township status, is under development and another 2,500 lots will be developed there within another five years.
Regional Housing Officer, Mr. Gaydyal Ramnauth said the infrastructural development of the scheme will be done in phases and the cost of a house lot will be calculated per square foot.
According to him, all the house lots would not be the same size but residents can start paying for theirs after the designs and ground surveys are completed.
