President, Ramotar drop in on Bartica Regatta

FOLLOWING a productive weekend engagement in Lethem, Region Nine that included a visit to the Lethem Rodeo, President Bharrat Jagdeo, the ruling Party’s Presidential Candidate Mr. Donald Ramotar and Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce Mr. Manniram Prashad, dropped in on the Bartica Regatta. The family-oriented event held during the Easter weekend attracts many from across Guyana including tourists from the Caribbean and North America and is home to one of the largest and most popular fun-filled events during the Easter weekend.
Since its inception in 1974, the event has grown in scale and number of activities including sports and pageantry.
At the launch of the 2011 Annual Bartica Regatta, on April 7, nine delegates vying for the Miss Regatta title were unveiled.
President Jagdeo’s visit to the community is the second for the year and, as customary, he mingled with the patrons in a spirit of exuberance and camaraderie while enjoying the boat race.
Speaking on the President’s behalf, Presidential Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Mr. Donald Ramotar assured that the regatta will continue to gain the patronage of the Government given its contribution to community development.
The President’s visit also coincided with an intercession held by a newly formed Christian group at the regatta venue and it was there that the Head of State offered words of encouragement.
