– Prime Minister at Atonement Service
HUNDREDS of Guyanese from within the Christian community joined in the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC’s) atonement service held at Parliament Buildings in observance of the death of Jesus Christ. One of the challenges in life is not to “do good to those who do good to us, but doing good for those who do not do good for us”, and this should come naturally, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds said while delivering his remarks.
He challenged all Guyanese involved in the various religions to take heed of the message of love since all the religions call for love for fellow mankind.
Prime Minister Hinds made reference to a particular country which prospered economically and socially under the slogan ‘Prosper thy neighbour’. In this respect, a practical way of demonstrating love for others is that in all persons do, they should work for the prosperity of their neighbours, he added.
As it relates to the significance of Good Friday, Prime Minister Hinds questioned the level at which persons living in Jesus’ time regarded his life and message. He added that the events of Good Friday connote the sacrifice Jesus made by laying down his life for sinners.
Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.
The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of Easter observances and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, or Easter Friday.
