PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo, in true philanthropic fashion and in
continuation of his tradition, distributed hundreds of kites to children in
various communities across the country yesterday. The President’s first stop was Tiger Bay where dozens of school-aged
children, some accompanied by adults, thronged the corner of N&S Mattai in an
effort to receive their kite, the symbol of Easter, from their beloved Head of
State.
He then proceeded to Rasville, West Ruimveldt, where a similar
welcome awaited him. The President’s final stop for the day was at his home
Village of Unity, East Coast Demerara, where more than 100 children received
kites, personally distributed by the President.
Since assuming office in 1999, President Jagdeo has made it his
mission to personally deliver kites to children of all ages in depressed
communities all over the country. He is also slated to distribute more kites today.
As part of the Easter celebrations this year, the president will
visit several communities, including Lethem, Region Nine, home to the Rupununi
rodeo.
In these Cullen Bess-Nelson photos, President Jagdeo is seen personally distributing kites to youths in Tiger Bay and Ras Ville in Georgetown, and at Unity, Mahaica on the East Coast Demerara yesterday.
