HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon yesterday handed over a cheque worth $1.6M to Regional Executive Officer, Region Seven, Mr. Peter Ramotar at the Office of the President.
Dr. Luncheon said the money is Central Government’s contribution towards the Bartica Regatta activities and will also be used to improve on the physical infrastructure of the area where the activity is being held.
Ramotar expressed his region’s appreciation and assured that the funds will be expended for the purpose for which it was given.
The Bartica Regatta which was officially launched on April 6 at the Tourism Ministry, started out as a one-day event. However, this year it is expected to be an entire week of activities.
This event is also much anticipated by the business community in Bartica including the craft producers and hotel owners.
The Bartica Regatta Pageant, which has become a popular feature in this event, will see nine young women from Region Seven and its environs vying for the crown this year.
