Overseas-based Guyanese robbed of US$6,500, jewellery

Police are hunting for two men who robbed two overseas-based Guyanese early yesterday morning at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, minutes after they arrived in the country at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. At about 03:40hrs yesterday, on Latchman Singh Street, Mon Repos, overseas-based Guyanese Loreta Mapura, 55, and her husband, Kadar Mapura, 56, were attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Police said the victims had just arrived at the residence from the airport, and were taking their suitcases into the house when they were held up by the men.
The robbers got away with their personal jewellery and US$6,500 in cash.
