President launches scathing attack on Kaieteur News publisher

– says Glenn Lall  is ‘small minded’ with an ‘ego beyond his capabilities’
PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo has launched a scathing attack on the publisher of Kaieteur News, Glenn Lall, accusing him of double standards for accusing Government of corruption while being involved in nefarious activities himself.

On Monday,  during the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) county conference held at the JC Chandisingh Secondary School in Corentyne, Berbice , the President charged the PPP delegates to remain united and gather strength from the foundations upon which the party was founded,  but warned them against being sidetracked by those with an agenda to bring the Government down.
“Don’t let the Kaieteur News or the Stabroek News determine who [we] are. They try to define us, and they define us not by the progress we make but by their own terms, because they are mouthpieces of the PNC,” the President said.
“So they try to define us in discrimination and corruption terms. That’s what they would like people to believe about us,” he said.
“Now take for example the Kaieteur News. Every single day they invent a story and we respond to it and they never carry a response. They go on to invent a new one and everyday we have to respond and respond and they never carry the responses. It is because they are hoping to sidetrack us from focusing on development and going along their agenda. They want to set the agenda for us,” declared a clearly livid Guyanese head of state.
“You know, since Kaieteur News started recently, the PNC paper – the New Nation – stopped printing, because Adam Harris, who is the Editor of Kaieteur News, is the Editor of the New Nation. Most people don’t know this. So the Kaieteur News is the new New Nation,”  Mr. Jagdeo charged.
“They like to throw stones. But…those who have glass houses should not throw stones,” he admonished.
“And if you know the person who owns the Kaieteur News, well, he is small minded, barely functional…and his ego is beyond his capabilities. But more importantly and more dangerously, he does not recognise that himself. So, comrades, all you have to do is massage his ego…and the PNC and AFC (are) just massaging his ego, telling him how powerful he is [because of his newspaper],” the President charged.
President Jagdeo also accused Lall of benefiting from ‘backtracking’, alleging that the KN publisher was “involved in backtracking” during which he  “ripped off” lots of people, but is now trying to hide from that.
“His man of business who worked at Customs…used to be very helpful in clearing things from Customs and for which he got fired from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) for corruption. [Lall] asked me to get him re-employed. I refused to do that. So he talks about corruption but he wanted me to put back a corrupt man. That’s not what we’re about…,” the Guyanese head of state told the large gathering at the conference.
He also told party supporters not to  lose sight of the fact that the Kaieteur News is a newspaper that is very hostile to the Government, one that has its own agenda.
“We can’t let them define who we are, they would never say good things about us because they want to see us out of power. Are we going to allow that to happen?” the President asked.
There was a resounding “No” from the gathering.
