Health team going to treat with typhoid, malaria
CHAIRPERSON of the Health, Sanitation and Environment Sub-Committee of the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Ms. Juliet Coonjah, has assured a People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) councillor that a health team will be rushed to lower Pomeroon River, shortly, to assess and treat with several reported cases of typhoid and malaria. She gave the assurance after PNCR Councillor, Mr. Rudolph Garraway disclosed, at their statutory meeting Tuesday, that the situation in lower Pomeroon is very serious because many persons have been diagnosed with the two diseases.
He said three members of his household are, currently, suffering from the sicknesses and many of the other sick have to travel long distances, by boat, to get medical treatment at Charity Hospital on the Essequibo Coast.
“It is suspected that the recent flood waters in lower Pomeroon is the cause of the sudden outbreak,” Garraway said, appealing for medical personnel to visit the area urgently.
