Guyanese duo steer T&T side to victory

GUYANA’S Kellon Carmichael and Dion Ferrier led their adopted Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) side Aranguez Cricket Club to a comprehensive five-wicket victory over Explorers Sports Club in the Trinidad and Tobago national two-day championship last weekend. Aranguez won the toss and inviting their opponents to take first strike bowled them out for 199 with Carmichael and Ferrier who was a member of the victorious 2006 Guyana/Stanford 20/20 team, taking three wickets each for 39 and 45 runs respectively.
In reply, Aranguez made 253 with Michael Browne top-scoring with 54, while Rishi Paria (52), Rohan Parsram 35 and Ferrier 30 offered support with the bat.
Faced with a deficit of 54 runs, Explorers were routed for 189 in their second innings with Rakesh Seecharran destroying their batting with his 7-63, while Carmichael took 2-19 in support.
Set a challenging 139 to win from 14 overs at a rate of 10 runs per over, Aranguez used Carmichael as an opener and the Guyanese did not disappoint, blasting 23 from 10 balls before he was dismissed.
But it was the batting of Kevon Pierre who made an unbeaten 40 off 26 balls and West Indies Under-15 skipper Vikash Mohan 39 from 16 deliveries that brought home the bacon for Aranguez who reached 140-5 in the final over to take over the second place in the points standing, with four matches in hand.
