A 77-year old man was yesterday morning fatally shot on Freeman Street, East La Penitence, shortly after 11:00hrs.
Dead is Benjamin Nurse, of 1314, 6th Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
The motive of the killing is suspected to be robbery. Nurse, who lives abroad had returned to Guyana on business and was residing at Diamond at the time of his death.
A police report said that around 11:15hrs Nurse, with the assistance of another man, was cleaning a property which he owned at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown, when he was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The armed man discharged a round which stuck Nurse, snatched a gold chain from his neck and escaped on foot.

Nurse was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are in progress.
