Robbery under arms accused refused bail

RANDY Morris, 31, of Lot 33 North East La Penitence, Georgetown, was remanded to prison, by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a robbery under arms charge.
Particulars of the indictable offence said, last March 30, being armed with a gun, he robbed Suely da Concerias Silva of $100,000 cash amongst booty worth a total $424,000.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the accused on the ground that he has similar cases pending in another court.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant was sitting in her motor car waiting on her husband when Morris demanded her belongings and she handed them over at gunpoint.
The prosecutor said the robber made good his escape but a policeman who witnessed the incident identified him, subsequently.
Defence Council Michael Somersall applied for bail to be granted Morris, arguing that he was never placed on an identification parade but is being harassed because of a newspaper publication he made.
But the application was denied and the case put off to April 12.
