Fugitive from murder charge nabbed with cocaine, remanded

A FUGITIVE in a murder investigation was nabbed at a Corentyne River backtrack (illegal migration) route with two kilogrammes of cocaine.
Police reported that Rickford La Fleur also known as Rickford Orlando Williams and Rickford Sabota alias ‘Bragga’ was remanded to prison following an appearance at Reliance Court, Canje, on Wednesday.
He was charged, there, with being in possession 617 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.
The 35-year-old, who gave his address as Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara also lives at Smythfield New Amsterdam, Berbice and along Canje River.
Police said he was wanted on a joint charge with his cousin, Esmond Bristol called Esmond La Fleur, for the unlawful killing of Cleveland Hetemeyer nicknamed ‘Waterdog’ and the case has been transferred to New Amsterdam Court for April 27.
The accused killers were evading police since the shooting death of Hetemeyer, at Silverballi Gutter, Canje Creek, on November 4, 2010.
It is alleged that the cousins, armed with guns, shot the victim in his abdomen, on his chest and right arm and escaped in his boat, leaving him to die
However, on March 26, plice, acting on information received, went to Shameena Jog Landing, a port of illegal departure at Springlands, Corentyne, where La Fleur was arrested with the narcotic and that case will be called at Springlands Court on April 7.
