ONCE again, Fitness Express of Sheriff Street has seen it fit to partner with the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) for their upcoming 2011 Novices bodybuilding and fitness show which is set for this Sunday at the National Cultural Centre. At a simple presentation ceremony held yesterday, supervisor of Fitness Express Ian Rogers handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum to president of the GABBFF, Fiona Harris, while outlining how pleasurable it was for Fitness Express, who supplies and retail bodybuilding and fitness supplements, to be associated with the Federation.
“Certainly, we at Fitness Express feel pleased to be associated with the GABBFF once again, as they organise their Novices show that is scheduled for Sunday at the National Cultural Centre. We are delighted that they saw it fit to approach us for our support and had (we) no hesitation in doing so,” said Rogers.
In her brief thank-you remarks, Harris lauded the sponsor for coming on board with the GABBFF. She called on other entities in Corporate Guyana to emulate Fitness Express.
“Let me say thanks once again to Fitness Express for partnering with us. They are one of the few businesses who have always been on board with us, irrespective of the competition we are organising and I am very grateful for their support.
“However, I would like to encourage more businesses in Corporate Guyana to emulate the steps taken by Fitness Express and come on board with us, for even though it is just a Novices show, where the athletes will be competing for the first time in the sport of bodybuilding, it promises to be an exciting one,” said Harris.
According to Harris, 25 athletes have registered to compete in the championship which gets under way at 19:00 h, with four male competitors and two female competitors, battling it out in the Male and Female Fitness category respectively, while there will be for the first time, a Masters Novices category.
One of the male competitors to grace the stage is Dexter ‘Bushman’ Garnett, who along with former GABBFF president Andre Poonai worked behind the scenes to ensure the inaugural Hugh Ross Classics was a success in 2008.
