POLICE Constable Gansham Singh, of Lot 103 National Walk, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with engaging in a corrupt transaction. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on March 12, being an agent of the State, he corruptly obtained $3,000 from Cleon Jarad, for himself, as and inducement for forgoing charges for traffic offences committed by Jarad, an act in relation to his principal’s affairs.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the facts are as in the charge and gave no further details but requested that bail be an amount to ensure the defendant returns for trial.
Surety for Singh was set at $50,000 and the case was transferred to another court for March 22.
